Artist Heli Rekula appointed professor in Norway
Finnish artist Heli Rekula has been appointed professor in the field of photography at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts. The professorship was announced vacant in the autumn of 2008. Rekula’s six-year period starts in the autumn of 2009.
Heli Rekula (b.1963) is one of Finland leading artists working with lens-based media. She was rewarded with Ars Fennica Price in 2002 and State Price for Photographic Art in 2005. The artist made her breakthrough in the 1990s and has worked in her art and her artistic doctoral studies with questions about the spatial presentation of photography and it’s performative nature. She has taken part in several group exhibitions abroad and her video works have been presented in various film festivals in Finland and abroad.
The Bergen National Academy of the Arts celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
