ANTTI RUUHELA: MAALAUKSIA 2.10-1.11.2009
Galleria Kalhama&Piippo is delighted to open artist Antti Ruuhela’s (b.1980) solo show of new works that radiates freedom of all rules and regulations. In his art Ruuhela successfully captures sensitive melancholy, discretion and grotesquely mocking humour into one single work. The bold, expressive an emotional painting is juxtaposed with meaningful details, that have been executed in an informal way with staples, ballpoint pens or by scratching the canvas. The intuitive is mixed with something that seems analytical (or something mocking the analytical). The result is surprising, but somehow still familiar for us spectators.
Ruuhela’s fresh and multilayered art is an interesting mix of great ideas borrowed from the worlds well known painters and the talent of a young man to re-use them in an inventive way. It seems that Ruuhela doesn’t avoid anything in his painting. Instead, he takes something that has already been seen to an entirely new level. In his new work Ruuhela also demonstrates his great sense of space. His paintings seem to be something more than mere two dimensional, painted surfaces.
