Ville Löppönen (b.1980) Löppönen’s narratives and expression originate from popular culture but also from the long tradition of painting. In his works he moves in between the photographic figurativeness and abstract emptiness.

The crucial subject matter in his body of work very often is some kind of an incarnation of a superhero - sometimes seen as a secular and fleshly body-builder, sometimes as a spiritual figure like Christ.

In his works Löppönen depicts life as a struggle between the mind and the carnality of the body. In this battle the balance is hard to attain. Thus, the themes of both Christian faith and superficial western ideology are not moralized but rather openly interpreted in his paintings and drawings.

Löppönen graduated in 2007 from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts and has already participated in group exhibitions in Finland and the Nordic countries. Fall 2008 his solo show Mortification at Kalhama & Piippo attained a lot of enthusiastic attention.
